BHOLA



Bhola  is a district in south-western Bangladesh.  It  is  located  in the  Barisal Division. It is also the largest offshore island region in Bangladesh. It is bounded by Lakshmipur   and Barisal districts to the north, Bay of Bengal to the south, Lakshmipur and  Noakhali  districts, Meghna (lower) river and Shahbazpur Channel to the east, Patuakhali  district and Tentulia river to the west.
Bhola Island (also called Dakhin Shahbazpur) is the largest island of Bangladesh with an area of 1441 km². It is situated at the mouth of the Meghna River. There are ferry services from Maju Chowdhury Ghat, Lakshmipur District and from Barisal town.
In 1995, half of the island became flooded, leaving 500,000 people homeless
